I had some lightweight springs already, so I used them instead of rubber bands . . . so far they seem ok, but I will reserve judgement until I do my first run.

Also, my press is slightly different, as I not using to print t-shirts, but for printing on wood (game boards, etc). I had to make mine adjustable to accommodate different thicknesses of materials. I will put emulsion on a screen in the morning and make my first practice run in the afternoon. Will let you know how it worked.

I appreciate the plans you provided – simple but sturdy enough to last. Thanks.

I am using rubber bands. You need to make sure you use heavy enough bands. You can always double them up. I played with using springs, but they were either too short, too long, too strong, not strong enough. And rubber bands are cheap!

How funny – everyone begging for free plans. Rob, I’m going out to the workshop tomorrow to build the press that you designed above. It’s simple enough and I should already have the materials laying around.

Question: Does a rubber band really provide enough tension to keep the frame off the printing surface? Would a spring (like they used to have on old fashioned wooden storm doors – only smaller) work better?
